Or poetical, or semantical or whatever you want to call it.
Susan just emailed me and she used the word "fie", which is a wonderful word. Does anyone use fie any more? Fie upon them if they don't. Ah, an interesting case of bizarre grammar: "Does anyone" is singular. Next sentence has me using "them if they don't". One of the odd points of the language. Everyone assumes that anyone, even though it is used as a singular here, can also mean plural. Should I say "Fie upon him/her if he/she doesn't. Oh, fie upon it!
How about hither and thither? Do we hither and thither anymore? Do we curse anyone with a pox upon thee? When was the last time you said zounds?
And hark, anon, yea verily and forsooth? Prithee? Dost thou? When was the last time that you used fourscore?
Enough of this folderol; I needs must get back to ye olde dyepots.
Adieu.
sockmadMary - Gadzooks to you too. or to thee. Hark anon, I hear the yarn calling to me.

The Yarnarian Scores Big! Thank You, Sweet Hubbo!
This morning, the Hubbo went off on his usual weekend garage sale forays and came home with a mother's day present for me: an American Girl doll, replete with a couple of outfits, the loom, 2 wonderful wood chairs and various vases and goodies. Josefina! She is simply the most beautiful AG doll I've seen, even prettier than Elizabeth or Kim. Black hair in a braid, oh she is lovely!

So, me being me, I asked if there were any other AG dolls and he thought that there were 2 others. Back the two of us went and I got Molly and the now-discontinued Samantha. Lots of clothing, both contemporary and period. All of this for a pinch more than the price of just one AG doll. Whoo hoo. So here's my haul:
Molly and Millie Lillie (my original knock-off doll):

Samantha and Josefina together and Sam by herself:

Some of the accoutrement that came with the girls:

And then, to top it off, we wandered into a sale in Chatham and found this adorable little chest:

Is this a coup or what! So we got home and I immediately cast on some sock yarn to make Josie a pretty lace shawl. Clearly they all need lace shawls. And then Miss P and the Principessa Rose need some, too.
These dolls are for me. Can you imagine a 65 year old broad owning and dressing dolls? I've gone over the furry edge, but they are charming, and very pretty, and when the grandgirls visit, they can play with them.
It was a lovely day to share with the Hubbo, and then I plopped on the couch in the afternoon southern and western light, and took a delicious nap. A most wonderful day. Yeah, the Hubbo!
Caffeine Girl - The truth is that I always thought that adult women with dolls were wacko. Um, not. The adult women in the family are entranced with these dolls and their clothing. And I'm talking about the ones who are so totally not into kids and dolls. There's something about these dolls that evokes a childhood that nobody ever had. Well, whatever! I'm entranced & the Hubbo is bemused by it all. He sees it as a financial coup. OK, I'm just a little kid at heart. You win.
CathyR - Are we in our second childhood? It seems to me that it's much better the second time around!
Sharon - That sounds good: I'm officially a doll collector. Now I need to buy a bigger house for all this junque!

The Yarnarian is a Grammarian.
I can't help it; these 2 things drive me batty"
The correct spelling is "separate"
There is no such thing as "I could of...". You can't "of" anything at all. You could "have" done something, however.
That's the entire post!
Carolyn pointed out "ink pen". What other kind of pen is there? A pencil?
Gramma Phyllis mentioned "can" and "may". I still use those two interchangeably.
Kay-From the Back Yard discusses pronunciation issues. If you ever have a chance, go and find a linquistic atlas of the east coast, and check out just how many different ways there are to pronouncing "Tuesday". Amazing!
Caffeine Girl has a thing about "fluke" and eighth grade kids. Ah the dreaded middle school kids. I remember them well. (The library is across the street from a middle school. Need I say more?)
KV mentions people saying "yeah, no" when they mean "no". This reminds me of episodes on the Vicar of Dibley when What's His Name keeps saying "yes, yes, yes, no".

The Yarnarian Chats.
Tea: I'm a tea lover. Black tea, oolong, mate, rooibos, you name it, I like it. OK, not much of a green tea or white tea person, but the rest: mmmmm.

And this covers just the black and oolongs. The rooibos and other herbals are in another area. Is this goofy or what? Tomorrow the Hubbo and I may go to Harney's in Millerton for some refills. If I could live on tea with an occasional piece of homemade bread, I'd be a happy camper.
Devices: As you know, the Hubbo is an engineer. And as you also know, engineers come in 2 categories: those who are deadly serious with no sense of humor whatsoever, and then the mischievous ones, the ones who have to tinker with whatever they find, the ones who have to take apart objects or who buy weird and wonderful junk at garage sales just to see what they are. Guess where the Hubs falls: yup, the latter group.
I adore engineers, geeky intelligent guys, but they are just a bit off the center. The Hubbo refers to many objects as "devices". Do you know what a protection device is? an apron. So when we have messy food, the Hubs puts on a protection device.
Do you know what a window device is? We have a sunporch with the oddest size windows in the world. A couple of them are so wide that I can't pull them down when it rains. So, the Hubbo being an inventive sort of guy, came up with a window device: a large sheet of plastic that I can lean into the window. Ergo, a window device.
The Hubbo is adorable, funny and inventive, and just a bit odd. If you're reading this, Dear, you do have to admit that you're just a bit off center. Me, of course, I'm perfect. If you believe this, then I have a bridge I can sell you.
Dyeing news: I have a new, somewhat labor intensive technique, which is producing the most wonderful colors. It's a 3 part process, and I'm in love with it. I'm also playing around with white. It could be that everywhere I look, there are white blossoms, but whatever the reason, white it is. So, here are a few of yesterday's dyeing session.
Gray's Paint and Fairytale:

Pretty Lady and Morning Glory:

There are a few more that I haven't photographed yet. So, guess what? These are all sold already!
That's it! I'm off to a knitting meeting that I haven't attended in months. I really really need time off to play, and I'm so looking forward to this. Talk to you maybe Sunday or Monday.
Have a nice weekend, enjoy your Sabbath or if you could care less, your weekend.
Mary the Shark (new name): Aren't those guys just the goofiest characters? And funny! He makes me laugh all the time. I swear that in the first year I knew him, I laughed more than the previous 50 years put together. Does yours tell chicken jokes?

The Yarnarian Blathers Randomly.
Today is a dyeing day. I'm thinking lots of pales, but we'll see when I actually get to those dyes. You do know that they're in charge, not me. I have a number of custom order that I need to get out, plus more of the sotm, etc, etc.
Random blathering: I've been thinking of what we like to watch on the tube. House of course, PBS nature shows, and The Biggest Loser. I have a thing on the BL. I'm fascinated to see how these enormous people work their butts off and become slim. The amount of work and dedication is amazing. So my question is: do they keep it off when the show ends? Do they put all that weight back on?
VIP: Very Important Plug: Fiber Baristas: Flora & Fauna Fiber Club - Last 4 Days to Register! http://tinyurl.com/cwjqww
Random plugs: Here are some of my favorite Etsy sites. I love the idea of supporting a small business. So, in no order whatsoever, here are some of my favorites:
Naya's Designs. She makes the most adorable American Girl outfits. They're well made, very cute, and much cheaper than the official AG clothing. Etsy is a great source for doll clothing, and you're supporting an indie business.
CCValenzo. I love her jewelry. I keep marking it as faves, but I only own 2 earrings. I just can't decide what to buy!
Sea Sprite Soaps. I buy her soaps in 5 bar samplers, and one is nicer than the next. Yeah, this is a bit of a luxury, but the soap lasts forever, the fragrances are lovely, and the lather is luxurious.
Hodakapottery. I haven't bought anything here, mostly because I can't decide what to buy, but the pieces are so pretty.
Nonblather: Have you checked out this site? Knit-a-Square helps out those poor, poor children in South Africa. Little kids with no parents. Little kids who are hungry and cold. How can you resist? It doesn't take much energy to knit an 8" square out of leftover wool worsted yarn.
Here's my basic mindless pattern.
Cast on 1 stitch.
Row 1: Increase by knitting in front and in back of that first stitch: 2 stitches.
Row 2: K1, increase, k1: 3 stitches.
Row 3 and all subsequent rows until you've reached 51 stitches: K all stitches until the second-to-last stitch. Increase in that stitch, K1.
When you've reached 51 stitches, you start decreasing:
Knit until you've reached the last 3 stitches, ssk, k1.
Keep doing this until you've reached one stitch. Finish off, leaving a nice long tail for sewing up.
That's it. Couldn't be easier, no? All the info about where to mail, etc, is on the Knit-a-Square web site.
Gotta get to work. Maybe pics tomorrow. If not, then probably on Sunday.

The Yarnarian Thanks Her Loyal Public With a Royal Wave!
As the Pastel Queen of Ravelry dyers, I graciously wave my hand in a most regal fashion and thank you all for reading my nonsense. Whoops, I mean my pearls of wisdom.
The Yarnarian has a problem: There is blub on her body where no blub has been seen before. It's time for her to get back to exercise and get rid of that blub. So in that spirit, she went off to the gym today and did over an hour workout. And now she feels pleasantly tired and most virtuous. Plus, one of her dear customers is a triathlete, and the Yarnarian is jealous. And, tonight is the Biggest Loser, and if they can do it, so can I! So there. You all have official permission to pester me about going and put pressure on me.
Dyeing news: I dyed up a bunch of sotm yarns yesterday, and while I was on a roll, I did a few skeins for sale. Here they are, and as usual, if you want, email me and I'll invoice you.
One skein of Bambi in Jessica:

Rose yarn: Peach Almondine and Aubade

In Shelley yarn: Springtime and Pow!

White Blossom and Robin's Egg

Knitting news: The mystery sweater that I was working on forever turned out to be a disaster. So it's now history. Fortunately I have a good bit of yardage left maybe for a winter shawl instead, or maybe a scarf or something. bye-bye ugly sweater!
I'm now working on that gansey that I started way back in December. I'm on the sleeves, and I have got to hustle on it because as soon as it's finished, I want to knit a lacy something for the winter on fingering wt wool.
Jessica, Aubade, and White Blossom are sold.
Henya - I do feel much better after I exercise, so why do I fight it so?
