Two yarns from the same dyes, one dyed with all the colors at full capacity, and the other dyed with the leftover solution from the first dyeing.  Isn't it interesting to see how different they are?

A new block

Here is my Rose Block.  It's an EPP block.  My points are not perfect but then I'm not perfect, so we get along just fine.  I have enough material to make more blocks, so I think I'll expand it.  Right now it's a 12" square.

Yarn News:  The Blues, a PennyRose Penny yarn.  75% superwash merino/25% nylon.  450+ yards

Blues, teals, and (what you can't see) a bit of purply blue tossed in.  Most of the hues are of the same value, with a little lighter values here and there.  It would make splendid socks, as well as shawlettes, baby gear, whatever you like for fingering weight.
As with most of my yarns, this is a one-of-a-kind colorway.  That's how I like to dye.

Ah ha!  The Blues just sold!

I dye for you.

I truly do.  And the dyeing mojo is back, thank goodness.  It sort of disappeared over the summer, but now my fingers are itching to dye a lot, so, I'm happily dyeing for you.

Here's this week's collection: A Potpourri of Penny Yarns. All are OOAK, and Penny, as you now, has over 450 yards of 75/25 SW merino/nylon goodness. It's soft, durable, and takes dyes beautifully. Penny is my go-to yarn for everything from socks, to scarves and shawls to sweaters to tops for American Girl Dolls. And it feels so nice when you knit with it, too.

The 3 greens on the left are Highlands, Lowlands and Terrain.

You can see how they progress from dark to a nice medium set of greens.  They are not pure green; there are blues of varying kinds tossed in.  Fun for me, and fun for you to knit.

The two in the middle are Heather and Citrus:  Heather sold immediately.  Sorry, all you Heather lovers.

And the final two are Peachy Keen and Butterscotch.  Peachy Keen is done in a new type of dyeing for me that produces a very neat yarn.  Butterscotch reminds me of butterscotch and vanilla ice cream with caramel on top.

I'm off to sew some more.  Between the sewing and the knitting and the crochet, I barely have time to read, and I have the latest George Martin book and keep falling asleep over it.  This may be a great book that I've slept through.

Wall-to-wall books - Boy, do I ever understand!  I'm not this way with yarn anymore, but now that I've rediscovered sewing, I'm buying frabric like it's going out of style.  We're both serious fiber junkies, no?
Do the Day - Alas, Heather sold instantly, and I can't do it again.  It was a mish mash of colors that looked awful, so I added a bit of other colors and this is what came out.  If I could do it again, I would.

New Blossom Colorways.

I didn't have jury duty yesterday, so I treated myself to a bit of a Blossom dye-in.  This batch runs the gamut from very pale to bright, something for everyone.  Hey, I just dye them, I have no control over the process.  You know perfectly well that the dyes do what they want; I'm just the hands being controlled.

Pale yarns.  Not white, or even off white, but soft and very pretty and with a touch of white in them.  Melon, Dream, Lady and Sweet Blossoms.

A bit more zip:   Garden, and Bahama Blossoms.

And even brighter:  Pansy, Foliage, and Carnival Blossoms.

Actually, the only real bright one is Carnival Blossoms.  Cheery and fun!

A Sweater Journey

 Green Penny yarn

Would you like to go on a sweater journey with me?   I thought I'd take you along, and give you my thought processes. Who knows?  Maybe you'll want to take the plunge with me.

So first decision:  What yarn and what color?  I do my best work on skinny yarns.  I want to use my Penny sock yarn.  Lots of yardage, wears very well, is soft but strong, nice stitch definition.  Perfect.

Color:  the trouble with being a dyer is that I can make any color I want, so the choice is endless.  However, I've been doing a bunch of greens for Sock Madness Forever, and loving them, so GREEN it is!
Needles:  size 3.  Why?  Good gauge and I like working on them. (plus they were handy at the moment.)
Gauge:  approx 6 sts/inch on stockinette.  Not terribly important at the moment because I want to do some patterns, but will become important if I decide to do the sleeves and bodice in stockinette.

Pattern:  At first I wanted to do cables, but lace is so my thing these days and very easy on the hands, so I'm off to play with lace patterns.

Shape:  a cardigan with a somewhat flared bottom, not ruffly, just a wider A-line shape.  Sleeves:  3/4 and also gently flared.  Armhole:  my usual dropped T. 

Size:  38" or 39" at the bodice and ? at the bottom.  I want this to go over a turtleneck so I don't want it fitted, but neither do I want it oversized.  When I get to the armhole, I'll decide whether to make it 38 or a bit larger on the bodice.  I can easily do that by taking off less stitches at the underarm.  I have a Coldwater Creek sweater that I love, and I'll get my measurements from it.

Neck:  Maybe scoop or square.  Don't have to decide until I get to the bodice.

Buttonholes:  No.  I hate making buttonholes and sewing on buttons, so I'll close it with a pretty shawl pin, or maybe I'll bite the bullet and put in one buttonhole at the top and find a gorgeous button.  At any rate, I don't have to decide this now since it would go at the top of the garment.

Trim:  no ribbing.   A few rows of garter and then start the lace.  I may do seed stitch or garter on the bands.  Have to decide this before I start knitting, of course.

A really bad way to take a gauge over my knee.

Off to measure my CC sweater, and then start playing with lace patterns.

I did promise you yarns yesterday, and here we are. All are very rich and one is pastel, just because I couldn't bear to toss away the pretty dye solution.

Two are sort of repeats of last week's Night at the Mooseum. Sort of because I have no idea what went into the various dye solutions I used. Yep, I remember black, and a brown, and a secret color, but I think they are pretty close. Anyhow, you are not going to match them to last week's yarn, so it doesn't really make a difference. Not the prettiest of pictures, and the color is a bit off. Think black and gray and such, even though it wants to look like dark blue. It isn't.



Two are spoken for, so if anyone wants one, tell me now. I'll pick which one at random; they are pretty close.

All the yarns, except for Sapphire and Amethyst, and Dark Gems, are Penny yarn. Next week I'm dyeing something else.

The two non-Penny yarns are overdyes. I love to take skeins I've dyed up in the past and then overdye them. I don't use just one color to overdye, either. Each of these has 3 colors used in various solutions. You would never believe what they looked like initially. And they are simply beautiful! Very rich and complex and beyond wonderful. I'd keep them for myself except that I need more yarn like a hole in the head. So, I'm letting you have them. The pics do not give you the complete idea of how lovely they are. Uh oh, I'm beginning to think I might need them. HELP! Please buy them and save me some space in the bulging yarn storage tubs.

Plug: There is a lovely young lady on Ravelry and on Etsy with the name of Ibunnysavetroy. How can you possibly resist such a moniker? Anyhow, she's in college, I believe and is selling adorable bags on Etsy for next to nothing. i picked up a couple because I couldn't help myself. These 2 are unlined, but they work just fine, and at approx $6 apiece, how can you go wrong? Give her a look-see and go treat yourself.
