Breakfast Stitching

And here we are again with more Whirligig blocks, all done while eating breakfast with the Hubz.  We eat, chat, and I stitch.  It's quite delicious.

When I finish the above row, I'll have 6 rows done.  Yay!

Very Slow Stitching.

EPP, the mother of all slow stitching.  Here are this weeks blocks for Whirligig.  Aren't they cute?  Slower than a sloth, but fun to make.

I work on my blocks at breakfast.  The Hubz and I eat breakfast together on our sun porch, and I like to linger over my tea, so doing a bit of handwork, chatting and sipping tea go nicely together.

I have about 30 blocks waiting to be joined.  This week, I attached 2 of them.  The goal is to finish by next July.  Maybe?

Here are the new joinings plus possible blocks to add next.  I"m leaning towards the bottom picture.

Slow Stitching

EPP is very very slow work.  Mindless beyond words, but slow.  Here's my progress for the week.

And that's all I have to report.

Whirligig Quilt

I can't remember the last time I worked on this project, but I'm back with it now.  What motivated me was how much I enjoy hand-sewing the binding onto a quilt.  Finished the quilt from the previous post, and thought that I should go back to the EPP project.  So I am.

Here are the two latest blocks.

I think I began this project back in January, 2017.  It might be time to finish it.

Lots of goodies

I've been remiss in keeping up this blog, but I haven't been unproductive.  Here's what's in progress:

Quilting

 

One lonely little Whirligig block in progress.  Karen from Quilts...etc. has decided to take the plunge and make this quilt, too.  Given how awesome a quilter she is, she'll be done way before I even finish the next row.  Just take a look at her hand quilting and applique.

My Cake Mix quilt is now being assembled.  Top pic is of my placement.  Bottom one is actually sewn together.  I do love these Cake Mixes; it's the way for me to go with half-square triangles.  Perfection and no bias mess.  I ordered Brenda Henning's Triangulations for future HST moments.

One Exploding Block quilt back from the quilter, and now being bound.  I do love hand stitching my binding down.  Can't tell you why, but it is satisfying.

Knitting

One lace shawl needing a good blocking.  Mostly garter stitch with some easy and interesting lace bands.  Two skeins of sock yarn with leftovers, which will go into Miss P's never-ending mismatched socks.

The boring sleeve from Miss P's yoke sweater in progress.  I sent out a sleeve and the body for her to try on.  She's at least 5'7", so I can't base the fit on my size.  Now the pieces are back and make perfect TV watching knitting.  I'm looking forward to working on the yoke.

A brand new lace shawl from the amazing Anna Victoria.  This one is Mermaid's Lair, and it is a lovely challenge to knit.  I like her charts very much.  I'm not one for written directions, but give me a chart, and I'm a happy camper.  

Yes, the shawl looks like an old rag with a lot of holes.  In actuality, that's what it is:  a piece of knitting with a lot of holes (yarn-over) and decreases.  Wait until it's blocked!  I've stretched out a bit at the top so you can get an idea of who it will be.

And that's all.  Pardon me, now, while I get back to work on any and all of these goodies.

Whirling along

Whirligig is slowly growing.  This is not quick work, but then I like the slow pace.  I can do it anywhere and I'm enjoying sewing on my deck.

And a photo of my latest hibiscus flower.  Such a pretty plant, and so far, I haven't managed to kill it.

EPP is back

 Finally.  I pretty much stopped doing English paper piecing in March, when Sock Madness began.  And then the shawl obsession started (and hasn't stopped), and my poor Whirligig quilt was set aside.  But now I have time.  Working on 2 mystery KALs (knit-alongs) and have finished my clues, so just waiting for the next ones to come out.  I don't want to start another knitting project, and then I remembered my EPP quilt.  I forgot how much fun it is to do these little blocks.

I'm on my fourth row and have enough blocks for almost 3 more rows.  It's a very nice change from knitting lace.

First row done and a name

I have a name:  Whirligig.  We have one in our back yard that spins in the wind, and at night is lit up by LED lights.  I just love it.  The spinning blades on this block remind me of that whirligig. 

The indentation on the second row is where the partial block will come.  And of course, there will be partial ones on the top.  I'm planning on a border or two.  We'll see; there's a long way to go.

Latest blocks.

I'm not sure about this last one; that's a pretty striking coral/orange, but I think if I incorporate it into at least 3-5 more blocks, it should work out.  If not, then it can become a coaster.
