 Hot off the presses, bound, crinkled and shipped out.  Log cabin with a lot of orange/turquoise fabrics, at least 30 different ones.

A little bit of patchwork

 2 more blocks today.  I'm the world's slowest quilter because I don't sew assembly-line style.  I like to choose my fabrics as I go along.  It's the best part of the process.  Speed?  Meh.  Pretty?  Yep.

They do look wonky, and probably are, but when assembled, quilted, and washed and crinkled, they will look just fine.  I think I'm the Wonky Quiltarian.

Socks #2

 Second pair of socks finished since Sept. 1.  The goal is to make 12 pairs of socks from 9/1/2020 - 9/1/2021.  I believe I will succeed.  This pair is for the Little Kid.  56 sts on size 0 (2mm) needles.  The next pair for him will be done on 2.25mm needles. The skinny minny needles hurt my hands. Yarn is from Opal.  

Next pair for him will be helix socks using 3 yarns.  I'll post when I have a decent amount knitted.

Quilting.  Yes it's still going on, but slowly.  I'm obsessed by the knitting.  Here are 2 recent blocks.  This log cabin quilt will be for  TLK (the little kid), since he's asked for one for months now.

Moving along

 I've decided that Sept is now the beginning of the year.  I have no idea why, but possibly because the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) is in Sept this year.  At any rate, the cooler temps feel like a beginning.  My goals this year are to make 12 pairs of socks (for me and for the little kid), at least 6 sweaters, again for me, TLK, and his mom.  Miss P is good with socks and sweaters, DD1 doesn't need any, and the Hubz will wear my socks for sleeping socks, but is not apt to wear a sweater of mine.

So, on the needles is sock #1.  Basketweave pattern, which is my go-to lazy pattern.  My usual 56 st sock, but the pattern is a multiple of 8, so can easily be made in larger sizes.Yarn by EarthAndEmpress.

Sweater.  Ah well.  Remember the raglan from the previous post?  Turns out that I accidentally used the wrong needle.  I was working on a #5, and just grabbed it.  My #5 and #6 needles are pretty similar in color.  It was, of course, too small.  Frogged it, changed my mind to making another top-down raglan, but with a different neckline.  And I'm making stripes.  I think it will be very cute.  Yes, this scrimmage of stitches on a 24" needle looks too small.  It's not.  I tried it on, and anyhow, I always smoosh lots of stitches on a 24" needle.

Yarn is Spearmint in KnitPicks Palette.  The pink and white are some leftovers.  Size 6 needle, and should measure approx 38" in circumference when done.  

Quilting:  TLK, aka the little kid, has been asking for another quilt.  He has his baby quilt, now used as a sitting mat on top of a bench, and his I Spy quilt, which is someplace or other. He's growing, and could use a larger quilt.   At any rate, a grand wants a quilt, a grand gets a quilt.  He likes brights and I started this new log cabin with turqs and peaches and such.  Very little very light colors, which is good, since he'll schlep it around all over the place and his mom doesn't want to spend her life washing it.  So, here are a few new blocks.

I'm also binding a quilt that I finished way back when.  I'll post pics when it's sewn and crinkled.

What's new?

 3 projects, 2 knitting,and 1 quilting.

Yet another basketweave sock, this one in a lovely colorway by a brand-new dyer, Earth and Empress.The colorway is Blackberry Mist, and I believe that there is one skein of it left.

Remember the raglan craze I've been on?  This is the third in the series.  Bottom up, with that cute little rib I showed in the previous post.  The yarn is Palette by Knit Picks, and the color is spearmint.  After this raglan, if I can stand yet another one, the next one will be top down with a different neckline and with stripes.  I think.  Who knows?  

On the sewing machine is yet another log cabin, with colors in turquoise and orange or variations thereof.  8" blocks, so a total of 64.  I have 8 done.  The youngest grand has asked me a few times for a new quilt, and he's mentioned it to his mother, too.  So who am I not to make him one?  If he likes this, he'll get it. If not, then we'll figure something else out.

A bit of quilting

A very nice change from all the knitting posts.  Here's the log cabin quilt; I just finished and have to press the row seams. 

Stats:  center blocks are 2.5" squares and the logs are 1.5".  I think I'm going to get this professionally quilted by someone.  It would take me the rest of my life, and I want to use it as a late winter/early spring quilt.

To celebrate finishing the flimsy, I decided to start an English paper piecing project, Valse Brillante by Willyne Hammerstein.

My autumnal log cabin

is finished!  Yay!  I made quite a while ago, and just finished it today.  It's my usual lap quilt.  I love to cuddle under lap quilts and never make bed quilts.  I get too bored to do that last row that would turn a lap into a bed quilt.

Next to string quilts, log cabins are my favorite kinds of quilts.  They are perfect for folks like me who argue with points matching.

I'm feeling under the weather today.  Not hard given that I had an attack of GERD last night that was really awful!  I'm so tired that all I want to do is go to sleep.  Good thing that these silly blocks take almost no brains or effort.

The cold and snow are also getting to me.  We're pretty lucky that we don't live in MA, but we have enough of the snow and ice to give me cabin fever.  Maybe it's a good thing that I feel icky!

Grumble grumble, complain complain.

More dancing blocks

A friend said that my blocks look as if they are dancing.  I think she's right.

Ocean quilt

On my design floor today:  Ocean quilt.  Half log cabins arranged in a ladder formation.  These are 3 strips with 3 more to go.  Yep, I like square quilts.  I will probably border the quilt with a pale green that moves from almost no color to light green.

After this quilt, I think I'll take a break from log cabins, although there are some wonky ones I'd like to try.

Design bed Monday

The design floor was occupied with furniture so I had to lay out the blocks onto the bed.  The blocks look somewhat seasick as a result.  Pics taken at different angles so the diagonal is not the same in each pic.

This is where I started from.  I did add some more lights.  I always need more lights.  I think I should concentrate on buying them.  I'm always drawn to mediums, both in knitting and quilting, and darks are not hard to add.  It's finding the right light fabrics that's difficult. 

So now you get the picture.  These are half log cabins. They'll get 2 more lights and 2 more darks.  I think they'll end up as 10" squares.

Batiks!

I love batiks!  When I look at them, my mouth starts to salivate and I can actually taste them.  Weird, but that's how I react to color, and batiks are all about color. 

So, I'm thinking of a half log cabin block.  Possible arrangement is a ladder, but who knows?  I have to sew them first.

 

At first I was going to combine purples with the green/blue/turqs fabrics, but changed my mind.  So of course, I'll then have to do a purple quilt.  This is so addictive.
