Heigh Ho, heigh ho, it's off to dye I go.

OK, it's off to dye I went.  Yesterday.  I had a yen to dye up some pretty colorways.

Top row, the first two and the second from the right are all Heather Yarn, a lovely yarn that dyes 2 values at the same time.  How?  A couple of the plies are in non-superwash wool, and the other ply is superwash.  Superwash takes up dye immediately, the regular wool take a lot longer to take the color, so you get a barber-pole effect.  However, it knits up as a marled yarn.  Very interesting and complex.  Fingering weight, no nylon, and perfect for scarves and such.  You can make socks, but you'll have to hand wash them in cold water.

420 yards of fingering weight yarn that's lofty and lovely to knit or crochet with.

Here they are:  Orangeade, Jenny, and Candy.

This next batch are Rachel yarns.  100% SW (superwash) merino with a neat little twist that really shows off your stitches.  400 yards of delicious woolliness.

Clown, Grete, Lemon, Parrot, Tropical Fish., Vermillion, and Wood Grain

Malka

Malka is now available for purchase.  Thanks to a group of wonderful test knitters from the Sock Madness Forever forum on Ravelry, she's ready to go.  I knit the shawl in my Heather yarn, which is a 3-ply skinny fingering yarn, approx 400 yards.  You can easily do this in any sock yarn.  The shawl is knitted top-down with a center pattern and 2 wings.  The wings mirror each other, and the outside is increased on every row, giving it that nice shape and drape.  This is an intermediate pattern.

And now I'm off to do a gazillion things.

Wall-to-wall books - OK a gazillion and one things to do.

merrilymarylee - Thanks.  I just had a major giggle at your squirrels. We're blessed with a rotten groundhog.

Malka's Shawl

Here's the first shawl I've designed with Heather Yarn (see previous post for yarn info). This yarn is clearly an obsession of mine. All I want to do is play with it and see what it does. I call this "the thinking knitter/crocheter yarn." You have to knit up a 4" swatch to really see what it does. And it's amazing. I thought it wouldn't work on lace. well, I was wrong; depending on the colorways, Heather does lace beautifully. I know it will do cables and twist stitches just fine too, and of course good old stockinette. I should play with knit/purl patterns, except that I can never get away from lace.

Now I have to write up the pattern and get it test knitted.

Scrabblequeen - I'm just learning my way around dyeing this yarn.  Very different from anything else I've done.  I'm quite infatuated with it.
merrilymarylee - Thanks.  Unfortunately, it's gone missing.  I wore it all day yesterday and didn't leave the house, and now I can't find it.  Kind of hard to miss it, so where did it go?
