Shameless Hussy

I'm a Shameless Hussy!  It's such fun.  Years ago, I went to the opera with a dear friend.  His wife didn't want to go because we'd get home so late, so my friend asked me to be his opera date.  On the way into the city (NYC) we were laughing about the term, shameless hussy.  So off we went to the Metropolitan Opera (don't remember which opera it was), and during an intermission, we wandered off into the book store.  The shop was crowded with very well-dressed people, including some in evening wear.  My friend and I got separated and he wanted my attention.  So, in a nice loud tone he yelled out:  "Hey, Shameless, where are you?"  Every head in that store came up.  We had the entire place's attention.  So I answered back (but not too loudly,  There are limits.):  "Here I am."   The two of us were so cool about it.  Bad people, but fun, fun, fun.  And that's one reason why I'm an SH!

Most of the time, I'm shy, quiet and demure, but every now and then, the SH comes out.  Yes!

We were chatting about shameless hussies on the PennyRoses forum on Ravelry the other day, and I thought it would be such fun to dye up a bunch of shameless yarn in shameless colorways.  So I did.  And here's the result:

Gina Yarn!  50/50 superwash merino/silk yarn with 430+ yards of soft, shamelessly wonderful yarn!  You can't see that silk sheen in the picture, but it's there in real life.  It is truly beautiful!

Where?  In my Etsy shop, of course.

I'm adding them gradually.

Stuff and more stuff!

1.  Did I ever tell you that you all raised $250 for NAMI?

2.  The Hubbo had a cataract operation very early this morning, and he's doing very well.  I remember the grim old days, when my grandfather had to lay in bed without moving and sandbags around his head.  Now, you have an operation, and you're zippy zippy practically immediately.

3.   I might be catching a cold from you-know-who.  She brought it with her, and I might have it.  Piffle.

4.  I have a new scarf blocking on the guest room floor.  Pics tomorrow or whenever it's dry.  And I have to write up the pattern.  Very cute scarf, too.  I'm calling it the Janus scarf, since it looks both ways.

5.  Take a peak at my new yarn, which needs a name.  I'm thinking of calling it Lili yarn after Little Lili, the wonder toddler.  The cost will be $20/skein.  100%  merino, but HANDWASH!  It's worth handwashing, too.

This is what it looks like when dyed with a darker color and more contrast between the darker ply and the lighter ones.  It works up and looks like ragg!

Here's what it looks like with less contrast between the darker ply and the lighter ones, and also this one has variegation but in the same general family.  It knits up as a heathery yarn.

This is 100% merino, but 2 of the plies are not superwash, so it's handwashing for this yarn.  The effect is so cool, that it's really worth a couple of minutes of soaking, and gently squeezing, and drying flat.

I'm not ready to sell it yet; I dyed up only 4 skeins, gave my sister one with reds and pins.  This one looks like the red and white string that is used by bakeries.  But it's soft, cozy wool and delightful against the skin.

However, here is a bit of a dye-up.  All are Gina SW merino/silk in heavier fingering wt and approx 400+ yards.  This is the most gorgeous yarn.  It has all the good properties of wool with that soft sheen of silk.  Each skein is $25 ( costs me lots more than the usual yarn) + the normal shipping for wherever you live.
Email me at fritzL234 AT yahoo DOT com if you want.  Otherwise, they will gradually make their way to Etsy.

Delight Silk
 Happiness Silk
 Rosebud Silk
 Silver and Silk

And that's what's new today.

Scrabblequeen - This is the thinking knitter's or crocheter's yarn.  You really need to do a swatch to see what will look good in it.  It's a very unusual yarn.  When I get around to selling it, I'll need to include some pics of what it can do in the ads.

The Yarnarian Has Pearly, Silky New Yarns!

Bambi Yarn

And she is no longer grouchy, for which she is grateful. I think half the universe was cranky yesterday. Maybe we all have cabin fever. An hour and a half of PT put me right. You just can't stay a grouch when you are happily stretching legs and your hamstrings are really working, and you are feeling mighty and powerful. OK, you are not feeling mighty and powerful. But you do feel that way when the ball squats are so much easier than they were. Wonder Woman!

Dyeing news: Yesterday, in my great grouchiness, I dyed up yarn, and quite accidentally, they all turned out to be silky and/or pearly. Bambi (70/20/10 SW merino/bamboo/nylon; approx 460 yards) has a natural tendency to be somewhat pearly. I hadn't planned on taking advantage of that property, but that's what happened, and the yarns are truly lovely. Price is my usual $20/skein.

Berry Pearl:

Blue Belle:

Peach Pearl:

Rainbow Pearl:

Rosebud Pearl:

Water Pearl:

And now the piece de resistance: Gina Yarn! 50/50 SW merino/silk, approx 400 yards of extraordinary yarn. I am so wild about this yarn, and I just got in 40 more skeins. Initially I ordered just a trial bit of yarn. It's a little bit pricey and I didn't want to order lots in case I didn't like it. HAH! It is beyond wonderful. You have no idea how much I want to keep it all for myself. But how much yarn can I possibly own? (Don't even bother to respond to that.) And besides, I want you to own it too. Because of the silk, it feels quite different from my other yarns. There's a crispness to it, and the memory is not quite what it would be if it were only wool, but the wool gives it a lot of resilience and it is lovely to knit with. And then there is that silken sheen to it. Not blindingly shiny, just that lovely silk look. Pictures can't do it justice, but that's all I have, so just imagine the feel and the look of this yarn. Price is $26/skein, which is a bit more than my usual, but a bit less than most people charge. I should really go up a dollar or two, but I like being affordable.

Daffodil Silk:

Iridescent Pearl:

Silken Rose:

Opal Silk:

Silken Waterlily:

You can directly email me if you want any of these. They are all one of a kind, and can't be repeated.

OK, these are grabbed by my favorite shark. Yay, shark! Silken Rose, Rosebud Pearl and Peach Pearl.

Rainbow Pearl has been grabbed.

Opal Silk is grabbed.

Scrabblequeen - She's very fast on the trigger finger!

Henya - I'm also glad I'm not grouchy any more.

itsJUSTme-wendy - I think the answer to why these came out so nice is that I was so cranky yesterday. Maybe I should only dye when I'm in a rotten mood.

The Yarnarian and YarnYenta Team Up!

This is a very long post with lots of pics. Enjoy it.

Here's my exciting news! I'm so revved for this.

YarnYenta and I have been chatting for a while about doing a sock club together, and yesterday we messaged back and forth and here's the result:

Flower Fairies Sock Club!

Is this neat or what! 3 months of charming sock designs and fairy yarns to make you a very happy camper. Everyone needs a little magic in her life, and we are going to give you a bit of it.

The particulars:

3 months: Feb, March, April (middle of the month, as usual)
3 brand new sock patterns designed by a wonderful sock designer
3 charming new colorways dyed my me

Yarns? I have a lot to choose from and have not decided yet, but you know that they are all lovely because I wouldn't knit on them if they were not.

Cost? $90 for everybody, USA, Canada, UK, and any other place possible. US shipments will mail out as Priority Mail, the UK and other places across the Pond will be sent as First Class International, Canada will also ship as First Class International. So, no extra charges for the basic package because you are not in the States.

Payment is done all at once, and not pay-as-you-go. I'll need payment by the end of January to make sure that I have enough to dye up the yarn.

Extra goodies? Nope. I don't like them, and don't send them, and anyhow, if it costs me to send them, then I have to add that cost to the club. We are a no-frills club, but we are sending you what counts: wonderful yarns and patterns!

Sign up: Any time from this blog and Etsy posting will follow next week. My routine here is for you to email me and then I invoice you. Etsy is self-explanatory.

So, is that not a treat? Now I have even more treats for you! New yarns. Really new yarns. They arrived last week after dyeing day, and yesterday I played with them.

First of all, I have a new Penny yarn. I'm replacing the old Penny yarn with this one because it is softer, has amazing yardage, and I don't have to wind up skeins from a cone! I've been looking for a replacement for quite a while, and now I've found it.

Penny yarn: 4 oz, approx 450+ yards. 75/25 superwash merino/nylon. This is a tad skinnier than the old Penny and softer and that yardage is amazing! The usual $20/skein.

Aida

Amneris

Radames is much more vibrant than Aida. Well he's a guy and a general and she's just a poor ex-princess now a slave girl.

Pastel Rainbow.

Violetta

AND my brand new Gina yarn: 50/50 SW merino/silk! This is so gorgeous. You don't even have to knit it. Just drape it around your neck and arrange artfully in a crystal bowl.

Gina yarn: 100g, approx 400 yards. 50/50 superwash merino/silk. Cost is $26.00, which is very reasonable for a luxury yarn, and this is really luxury. It is superwash, but I would hand-wash it. The pictures don't give you any idea on how soft and luxurious this is, and you can barely see that silken sheen. This yarn is a treat!

Metallic Silk

Midnight Silk

Silken Dew

Silken Mahogany

Silken Huntress

I need to keep one of the Gina yarns for me so that I can actually get to knit on it. Which one? I don't know. If you shark them, and one is left, I'll keep that one. I love them all and cannot make a decision.

fritzL234 AT yahoo DOT com

Silken Dew, Midnight Silk and Aida are already taken!

Silken Huntress is grabbed!

rheffner5 - They will be almost solids, or with a little bit of color variation. No deliberate striping or tons of variegation because that will interfere with the patterns. So just a bit of color play to make the yarn interesting and to give the socks a bit of spark. Light or dark? Not yet determined. YarnYenta and I will work that all out. Does that help?
