The Yarnarian Has Her Dyeing Mojo Back!

DM, aka Dyeing Mojo, comes and goes. Right now it's spot on, which makes me a very happy camper given that I need to do some serious dyeing! giggle.

Here's what's being listed on Etsy this week. You, of course, my faithful Bloggettes, may order directly from me and pretty much get first pickings. email, as you know, is fritzL234 AT yahoo DOT com.

First of all, 2 very pretty and exciting Penny yarns: Merry-go-round and Mysterious.

Next are 2 Bambi yarns: Pretty Girl and Shale.

One lone Rose yarn: Stained Glass.

And, ta da, the return of KONA! Yup, that wonderful yarn that I sold this time last summer. I have a bit of it left, and if it goes, I'll order more. Here are the essentials: 100% superwash merino, fingering wt, in 1100 yard skeins. There's enough to make a shawl, stole, scarves, even lots of socks. Or a matching scarf and a pair of socks or whatever you wish. You have to knit with it to believe how soft and lovely it is. At the moment, the price is $35/skein + shipping; it may go up a little bit if I order more depending on how much it costs me. Even with that price, this is great value for the buck. These are big skeins, so figure on the shipping being a bit more to non-domestic places.

Knitting News: Not too much except for making my way to finishing the cashmere scarf and working on the lace yarn one. However, in a moment of total madness, I decided to knit Miss P an AG doll outfit. I found a lovely pattern for many pieces on the web, bought and downloaded it. I got about 2 inches into the skirt when I knew that the AG doll would swim in it. Frogged (so what else is new?), changed the pattern for my gauge, and knit this. I have about 3/4" to go, but at 280 stitches per round, it's taking me a while to get it done. Yarn is Tofutsies.

I'm planning on knitting a top to it out of white Dale Baby Ull with the skirt yarn as trimming.

And that's what's new in the world of Chez Yarnarian.

Henya and ScrabbleQueen - Thank you.

Quickie

Just a quick note because the Yarnarian needs to go and knit quietly on her sun porch.

All the Kona sold out! I'm in a daze over it. It took me forever to package the yarns up. There were emails, etsy conversations, more emails, changing shipping locations for those international folks, changing them back for various reasons, more emails, more etsy convo's.

And I got it all mailed out this morning before the package pick=up time, and before the rates change! Whadda Yarnarian! Whadda woman! Whadda a tired person!

And that's why this is a quickie. I need to go and knit very quietly and drink tea and have lunch.

Oh, and I ordered 30 more skeins of Kona.

Bye-bye. I'm creeping downstairs to make a fried egg, and then onto the porch.

The Yarnarian Reveals All! And Trees!

For those of you who have been dying (dyeing?) to know what all this Kona is for, I can now officially tell you because Renee has given me the go-head.

Renee is GoddessKnits, and is the very talented lady behind all those gorgeous Mystery Shawls. She is currently taking sign ups for her Anniversary Shawl. Soon she'll start taking sign-ups for Mystery Shawl 9, and, ta da!!!, I've dyed up the Kona for it. Is this neat or what!

These gorgeous shawls are yahoo KALs, and her instructions are perfect. The price is very affordable. She also has a couple of forums on Ravelry, Goddess Knits, and Mystery Shawl Along. Her older patterns are also for sale on her web site.

So, these pretty babies are reserved for MS9, and what doesn't sell there, I'll put up for sale to the general public after she closes the sign-ups.

One of my amazing customers asked if I would dye up some blue sock yarns. Of course I would. Do any of you have any color desires? There is no obligation if it is only one skein; if you don't like it, someone else will. Message me on Ravelry or on my email (over on the right) if you'd like.

More pics of our trees taken last night about 6 pm.

Here's my exciting personal news: I'm finally getting a color and cut at a new salon! I have about 3 inches of gray showing, my hair is wild and very thin, and I look about 10 years older. I go through these gray moments about once a year. I have to see exactly how gray I am (very, very gray) and should I not dye it. Hah! The Mommie has less white hair than I have, and more body to her hair. If wigs weren't uncomfortable, I say the hell with it, and just buy a couple of pieces. This is a big sore point in my life. Just telling you..

Now that was a good rant!

The Yarnarian Fails Miserably!

She tried, she really tried to stay off the computer. Hah! Every time I walk by it, it gives out its siren call: Come to me, waste time here. I'm going to call the computer "die Lorelei".

So here are some more Kona yarns that I dyed on Monday. Cantaloupe, Fuschia, Honey, and Waterlily.

I want you to see the view from my bedroom window when I wake up in the morning:

I bunny... - I can see this from my bed. Year around it's so pretty.

Carolyn and Bev - I failed miserably in my non-computing resolve. I can't stay away; I need an intervention.

The Yarnarian Loves Yarns!

Laminaria is coming along quite nicely. I love the Estonian pattern, and there are no NUPPS! What's a nupp? Sigh. It sort of a bobble except it's a lace bobble, and I truly hate making them. They look wonderful, but they drive me crazy. But this cutie patootie of a shawl has no nupps.

I'm following a Raveler's advice and doing k3tog on one side and sssk on the other to balance it off. It seems to look fine to me, so I'll keep doing it. The Kona (have I told you that I love the Kona? How many times have I told you already?). That Kona is delicious and I think this shawl will be super snuggly and soft.

This skinny 2-ply yarn blooms as I knit with it. I'm using a #5 super sharp lace needle (thank you, BF), and it is just the sharpest #5 I've ever used. I'm a convert as of right now. Give me them thar lace needles.

Clearly I'm going to dye up these yarns and sell them; Everyone should try this yarn out. I told you that a lot of sock knitters don't like the yarn because of its skinnyness and splittyness, but it hasn't once split on me since I started this shawl. Maybe the answer is to use it for something else.

Are you getting tired of my Kona frenzy? OK, got it, I'll just show you a little picture and then I'll shut up about it. At least for today. Nasty smirk.

What else is going on: a pic of Festooned Frippery. It's longer on the foot than it looks, about an inch from the toe decrease.

And look what came in the mail today! Tess superwash laceweight yarn. The colored ones are for Sock Madness 2, even though I'm out of the running. The blanks are for me to dye up. I had forgotten that I ordered this, and here it arrived. Nice treat, no?

Hubbo and I are recovering from our colds. Isn't it amazing how a little cold can make you feel so punk! Well, you know, it could be much much worse. So we're done grousing about it. Which is a relief because we were carrying on as if this were the worst thing that could happen to a person. Enough histrionics!

I dyed this morning, so with a little bit of luck, and the skeins dry, you'll get more pics tomorrow.

Yarns and Odds

The Kona dried! It took about a day and a half to accomplish this but it really dried and now I've started on my Laminaria shawl. The yarn got loftier and softer, if that was possible, in the dyeing process. I think I'm going to love this yarn. I might even start selling it if I can bear to part with it. Here's the beginning of the shawl. You think I have a ways to go?

More knitting news: Here's the latest sock. It's beginning to look festooned. I love the word festooned. I may yet change the name of this pattern to Festooned Finery.

The diseased one and I seem to be on the mend. We sound like a chorus of hackers and sneezers. He hacks; I sneeze. We both blow our noses. Such cacophony.

Ibunny...- What are you knitting on deadline? We're all nosy.

Carolyn and Knittyvritti - I cough, I sneeze, I complain. Shawl is a bit longer now. just large enough to cover a couple of fingers. I'm always slow at lace.

Holly - Thank you!

"Kona, Oh Beautiful Kona", I sing thy praises. If only thou wouldst dry already!

I just heard from an old friend of mine from my old hometown days. She's on Ravelry and found me. Don't you love hearing from people who have dropped off your radar screen? She's a lovely, intelligent woman, whom I like very much, and we lost contact a while ago. So it was so good to hear from her! Thanks, SE, for contacting me.

Her husband used to take me to the opera because it gets out late and she really didn't want to go. So B and I had many Metropolitan Opera dates. I was just thinking about those evenings last night when I watched Romeo and Juliet at the Met. If you haven't seen these new productions, give them a chance. Opera at its most accessible.

Knitting news: Here's a picture of my still-soggy Kona wool. It's now been about 30 hours and that darn yarn still isn't dry. But if you take a look at its 1100 yards goodness, you'll see why. We are talking a helluva lot of yarn here. I wish you could see it in real life. The merino feels like alpaca and has that same alpaca sheen to it. Dry, sweetheart, dry! Mama wants to knit you up already!

Some more yarn I dyed up; these are or will be all for sale. Sand & Sea,Rainbow Teal, Pretty Flowers, Chocolate Mint Swirl, Hazy Hills, and Leafy Green.

Certain husbands, who shall remain nameless, gave me his rotten cold. Bad Hubbo!

Why do we call it a "cold"? It feels more like a "wet" to me.

Dawn - Kona is put out by Henry's Attic and is 100% Australian superwash merino, and the most gorgeous stuff going. If we live long enough and it dries, I'll show pics as i knit along.
